I have a song that begins “It was a dark and dreary day in the middle of July,” but it’s January and it aptly fit the rainy mood yesterday as numerous trips were made from New Hope to the John Justin Arena in the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo grounds with the horses. The FWSSR graciously donates the Will Rogers Auditorium and the John Justin arena and other amenities to Chisholm Challenge before the opening of the FWSSR on Thursday. The horses arrived wet and dirty, but were transformed by the volunteers in their stalls at the arena, being washed and groomed. The best they’ve felt for a number of weeks with the weather as it’s been. Although Daisy Mae wasn’t entirely pleased at being confined in a much smaller space than usual. Meanwhile, the horses left at New Hope are wondering where everybody’s gone.
Volunteers will be back in full force today as competition begins. Opening ceremonies began at 8:30 a.m.
