A Busy Time of Year
May 13, 2008
Since I am community reporter for our church, Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, this is a particularly busy time of year. What with end of school activities both at church and schools - especially with three boys - there is scarcely time to relax. For me, that includes writing articles on those events in addition to my regular writing projects. For those reasons, this newsletter is a little late. This month’s newsletter should be back on schedule if not early.
I am looking forward to the summer because many activities cease until school begins again. The boys can walk or ride bikes to where they need/want to go. The recreation center, the pool, the baseball fields, and the library are all within walking/bike-riding distance. There are camps and retreats for the boys which will get them out of the house for at least a few days at a time.
But I am not looking forward to having the boys hanging around the house or going in and out all day. I am planning to spend a lot of time on my book. It is difficult to concentrate on writing when the television is blaring in another room. Incidentally, there is nothing wrong with our boys’ hearing. Or they are arguing about what to watch next or just messing with each other. For them, watching wrestling is an natural invitation to use the floor of their den as a wrestling mat. Not always fairly, either. Then the one who actually started it is suddenly screaming for us to help him because he is hurt. So far, they have not hurt each other seriously (Knock on wood).
It will be an interesting summer I am sure. It would be nice if the boys woke up every morning, ate breakfast, did chores, and went to the pool or the rec center or the library. Most likely they will try to do everything but the chores. I do, however, have an ace up my sleeve. I can suspend their rec cards and swimming pass.
Either way, I should have time to write to my heart’s content. As I mentioned earlier, I plan to finish the history of our church. I am also working on a book of Christian poetry and essays. Not to mention articles along the way. And of course the newsletter and blog posts. Whatever comes my way, I will keep working, writing and doing the best I can. Trusting in the Lord to help me accomplish the task. Peace be with you.
